The runners on the bottom are some sort of composite that is extremely hard and slippery. I just saw this thread for the first time and I want to say that I bought one of the Sportsman's Guide military scow sleds and really like it. It was designed in part to transport injured troops. My only complaint is that it was supposed to come with a rubber bumper that went around the outside edge, which was missing on mine. It was designed to be pulled by horses, not humans. I just saw this thread for the first time and I want to say that I bought one of the Sportsman's Guide military scow sleds and really like it. It comes up high and holds and covers a lot of gear. I have loaded mine with close to lbs of gear and it pulled relatively easily. If I had turned it over and scraped the bottom first, I think it would have been fine. The built-in canvas tank is really handy. There is a criss-cross nylon rope that holds everything in place with some neat hooks that clip to the rope on opposite sides.
